Auto close sends an announcement as a read-only message. Each customer's conversation closes the moment it's sent, so they can read it but can't reply, and it never lands in your open inbox. It's on by default for announcements.
When to use it
Leave it on for one-way news: holiday hours, promotions, new features, reminders. You won't get a wave of open conversations to clear.
Turn it off when you want replies, for example asking customers to confirm, RSVP or answer a question. Replies arrive in Messages under the announcement's group.
How to set it
When sending an announcement, tick or untick Auto close this announcement before clicking Send Announcement.
The same option exists for:
Where | Option | Default |
Announcements | Auto close this announcement | On |
New Message | Auto close this conversation | Off |
Triggers | Auto close this message | Off |
What happens when it's on
The conversation closes immediately after the message is delivered. There's no delay or waiting period.
The conversation goes straight to the Closed group in your Messages tab.
The customer sees the message in the Birrdi app marked Read only, and can't reply.
If email is on, the customer still gets the email. They can open the message from it but can't reply.
Auto-closed conversations don't take up a group in your open inbox.
Letting a customer reply later
In Messages, switch to Closed, tick the conversation and click Reopen. The customer can then reply.
