Why is a Member Showing Red?

If a member is showing red in Birrdi, it usually means their membership billing is out of sync with Birrdi’s tracking system.

There are two common reasons this can happen:

  1. The membership was purchased directly through Square instead of the Birrdi membership signup link

  2. Birrdi attempted to auto-charge the customer’s card through Square and the payment failed

👉 This article focuses on the first scenario (manual Square membership purchases).

Why This Happens

Birrdi automatically tracks membership billing dates only when customers sign up using the Birrdi membership link.

If a payment is taken manually through Square:

  • Birrdi does not receive confirmation of the payment

  • The member’s next billing date will not update automatically

  • The member may appear red because Birrdi believes payment is overdue


How to Fix a One-Off Case

If you needed to process a membership payment manually through Square, you can easily correct this inside Birrdi.

Step 1: Confirm Payment

First, verify that the membership payment was successfully completed in Square.

Step 2: Update the Member’s Billing Date

  1. Open the member in Birrdi by clicking Memberships in the top menu bar

  2. Click the userp lus icon next to the name of the plan

  3. Locate their Membership

  4. Edit the Next Billing Date

  5. Set the date to the correct upcoming billing cycle

  6. Save your changes

Once updated, the member should no longer appear red.

✅ Always have customers sign up using the Birrdi Membership Link

Using the Birrdi signup link ensures:

  • Payments are tracked automatically

  • Billing dates update automatically

  • Membership status stays accurate

  • Less manual work for staff

  • Fewer billing errors


When Is It OK to Take Payment Directly Through Square?

Taking payment directly through Square is fine for:

  • One-off corrections

  • Special situations

  • Manual adjustments

Just remember:

👉 You must manually update the member’s Next Billing Date inside Birrdi afterwards.
