A credit plan with an initial supply of 0 gives members no credits automatically. You issue credits by hand instead. Use it when credits vary by member, for example comps, promotions or credits agreed one-to-one, while still using the plan's hour restrictions and daily limits.
What a credit plan is
A credit plan sets how many free hours (credits) a membership, league or punch card includes, and the rules for using them. Each credit equals one hour of free time. You attach a credit plan to a membership in the Credit Plan / Hour Restrictions field. Credit plans need Square to be connected.
Setting up a 0-credit plan
Create or open a credit plan.
Set Initial Credit Supply (upon signup) to 0 credits (manual issuance only).
Set the other options:
Max Daily Credits: the most credits a member can use per day (1 to 10, default 1).
Credit Increment: 1 credit or .5 credit increments. This can't be changed after the plan is created.
Expiration Rule: Expire Credits (default) or Roll Over Credits. See the warning below.
Save, then open your membership and choose the plan under Credit Plan / Hour Restrictions.
What happens with a 0-credit plan
At signup: the member starts with 0 credits.
At renewal: no credits are added.
When booking: credits are only used if the member has a balance. With 0 credits they pay the normal or member rate.
Membership rules such as Limit Active Reservations still apply.
Giving credits to members
When adding a member: in Add Member or Bulk Add Members, use Preload Credits to load 1 to 10 credits. With a 0-credit plan, preloaded credits aren't capped by the plan's supply.
For an existing member: open the member, click Add Credits, choose the amount and click Confirm Add. Use Subtract Credits to take credits away.
Warning: credits can reset at renewal
If the credit plan's Expiration Rule is Expire Credits (the default), a member's balance resets at each renewal. Credits you added by hand are lost. To keep manually issued credits across renewals, set the rule to Roll Over Credits.
Member discounts without credits
A 0-credit plan doesn't give members a discount on its own. To give members cheaper booking, create a member rate and restrict it with the rate's Memberships field. Turn on Secret Rate if only members should see it.
Things to know
Punch cards need credits to work. Don't use a 0-credit plan on a punch card.
The coin icon on the memberships list ("This membership has credits associated with it") still shows for a 0-credit plan.
If you use Generate with AI on the membership description or welcome email, check the text doesn't promise "0 credits" to customers.
