How Google Calendar Availability Works for Lessons

Birrdi supports Google Calendar conflict checking for lesson instructors to help prevent double bookings.

Important: Google Calendar availability is checked at checkout, not when displaying available lesson times.

How It Works

  1. Instructor availability is displayed: When customers open the Birrdi reservation page, they can view and select lesson times based on the instructor's configured availability in Birrdi.

  2. Google Calendar events do not hide available times: If an instructor has a conflicting event on their connected Google Calendar, that time may still appear available for selection on the booking page.

  3. Conflict checking happens when the reservation is submitted: When the customer clicks the final booking button, Birrdi checks the instructor's connected Google Calendar for overlapping events.

  4. Conflicting reservations are rejected: If the instructor has an existing conflicting event on Google Calendar, Birrdi prevents the lesson reservation from being completed.

How to Block Personal Time

Instructors can block personal time without creating additional lesson rates or blocking the simulator for other customers.

  1. Open the instructor's connected Google Calendar.

  2. Create an event covering the time they are unavailable.

  3. Save the event.

Customers may still see and select that lesson time initially in Birrdi, but Birrdi will reject the reservation when submitted if it conflicts with the instructor's Google Calendar.

Do I Need Custom Events?

No. Custom Events block the simulator itself, affecting both lesson and regular Pay-As-You-Go reservations.

If the goal is to prevent lesson reservations during an instructor's personal time while keeping the simulator available for other customers, use the instructor's connected Google Calendar instead.

Key Takeaway

Birrdi checks instructor Google Calendar conflicts at the time of reservation submission. It does not filter those conflicts out of the initial availability display.

Customers can select a conflicting time, but they cannot successfully complete a lesson reservation when an existing Busy event conflicts with that instructor's connected Google Calendar.
