Birrdi integrates directly with Square to process payments, apply taxes, and keep your reporting organized. While the connection between Square and Birrdi is very reliable, not all changes made in Square automatically sync back to Birrdi.
This guide explains what updates require action in Birrdi and what updates do not.
Changes to Item Prices in Square
If you update the price of an item inside your Square Dashboard and that item is linked to a rate in Birrdi, the new price will NOT automatically update inside Birrdi.
What You Need To Do
If you change pricing in Square:
Go to Birrdi Admin
Navigate to the rate connected to that Square item
Re-select or reconnect the Square item
Click Save
This ensures Birrdi pulls the updated price correctly.
Changes to Taxes in Square
If you change tax rules or tax percentages inside Square:
👉 You DO NOT need to update anything inside Birrdi.
Birrdi automatically respects tax rules configured in Square at the time of payment processing.
Deleting Items in Square (Important Warning)
Deleting items in Square that are connected to Birrdi can cause reporting and receipt issues.
If a Square item that was linked to a Birrdi rate gets deleted:
• Birrdi can no longer reference the original Square item
• Transactions will appear as "Custom Amount" on Square receipts
• Square reporting and item-level analytics may become inaccurate
Best Practice
Instead of deleting items in Square, we strongly recommend:
• Creating a new item and updating the connection inside Birrdi
Why Birrdi Works This Way
Birrdi intentionally requires manual reconnection when pricing changes to prevent accidental pricing mismatches and to give operators full control over rate configurations.
Taxes, however, are handled directly by Square during checkout, which is why those changes update automatically.
Recommended Workflow
Whenever you make changes in Square:
Change Made in Square | Action Required in Birrdi |
Price Change | Reconnect and re-save the rate |
Tax Change | No action needed |
Item Deleted | Reconnect rate to a new Square item |
