1. Make Sure Your Terminal is Paired
Before using the Square Terminal, confirm it’s successfully paired with Birrdi:
In the Birrdi admin, go to the Integrations tab in the top menu bar.
Click Square Terminal on the left sidebar.
If you don’t see your device listed as paired, follow the steps in this guide to pair your terminal before continuing.
2. Only Used for Birrdi Transactions
After pairing, the Square Terminal can only be used to process transactions sent directly from Birrdi, typically for unpaid reservations. It will not function like a traditional POS terminal anymore. You cannot use it to:
Add POS items
Accept tips
Ring up non-Birrdi sales
3. Charging a Reservation
When a customer arrives and has an unpaid reservation:
Go to the reservation in your Birrdi admin.
Click Pay on Terminal.
The Square Terminal will prompt the customer to complete payment. Once complete, the reservation is marked as paid in Birrdi.
4. Important Limitations
Tips cannot be added at the time of payment — this is a Square limitation when using the terminal this way.
You cannot add additional charges or items during this payment. It is for the reservation amount only.
If you need to charge for anything else (food, drinks, merch), you must use your regular Square POS device separately.
5. Best Practices
We highly recommend enabling pre-paid reservations to avoid in-person payments altogether.
If you choose not to use pre-payment, consider having two terminals:
One dedicated to Birrdi
One for your normal POS activity (Square Stand or another terminal)
