Square Terminal

Learn how Square Terminals work with Birrdi and why a dedicated device is required for processing unpaid reservations.

Please ensure you have this device from Square: https://squareup.com/us/en/hardware/terminal

!!! If you do not have this device, please STOP !!!

Birrdi only integrates with this terminal device, it cannot integrate with your Square stand.

If you do have this hardware device, you may proceed in Birrdi by following the steps.

Important: Square Terminal Usage Limitation

Once your Square Terminal is paired with Birrdi, it can no longer be used as a standard POS device.

It will only be able to process transactions that are initiated directly from Birrdi, specifically for reservations that were not pre-paid.

We understand this isn’t ideal, we wish Square allowed the terminal to support both regular POS transactions and Birrdi-driven charges. Unfortunately, Square does not support that combination.

Our recommendation: keep a second Square Terminal at your front desk, one for regular POS use, and one dedicated for Birrdi to process unpaid reservation charges.

Birrdi Recommendation: Use Pre-Paid Reservations

Our top recommendation is to turn on pre-paid reservations. This removes the need to handle payments when the customer arrives, streamlines the entire booking process, and provides a smoother experience for your guests.

If you choose not to enable pre-payment, pairing a Square Terminal can still be useful — but only if your goal is to avoid switching between Birrdi and your Square Stand to complete a payment.

Important note: The Square Terminal cannot be used to add tips or process additional POS items. It can only process the Birrdi reservation amount — nothing more, nothing less.
