Birrdi Triggers allow you to automatically send messages to specific customers before or after their reservations.
You don't have to send the same message to everyone. With Target Customers and Target Facilities, you can control which customers receive each automation.
This guide explains how trigger targeting works and how to configure the right audience.
Understanding Target Customers
When creating or editing a trigger, you'll find the Target Customers setting.
There are three available options:
Audience | Who Receives the Message |
Everyone | All qualifying customers |
Public Only | Customers without a membership |
Specific Plans | Members of the selected membership plans, players of selected leagues, customers of selected packs |
Your selected audience determines which customers qualify when the trigger sends.
Option 1: Everyone
Select Everyone when your message is relevant to all customers, regardless of membership status.
Common examples include:
Facility entry instructions.
Parking information.
Simulator tutorial links.
General thank-you messages.
Google review requests.
Important reservation reminders.
Example
You want every customer to receive instructions for accessing your unmanned indoor golf facility.
Create a Welcome Message Trigger and select Everyone.
Every qualifying customer will receive your instructions before their reservation, regardless of whether they're a member or a public customer.
Option 2: Public Only
Select Public Only when you want to communicate specifically with customers who don't have a membership, league, or pack.
This is particularly useful for membership promotions and other messages intended for non-members.
Common examples include:
Promoting membership benefits.
Encouraging customers to upgrade to a membership.
Advertising special offers intended for public customers.
Example
You want to promote memberships to customers after their reservations.
Create a Thank You Message trigger.
Select Public Only under Target Customers.
Choose when the message should send.
Write a message introducing your membership benefits.
Include a link to your membership signup page.
Only customers who qualify as public customers when the trigger sends will receive the promotion.
Tip: A Thank You Trigger can send after every qualifying reservation. If you only want to promote memberships once, consider using a Milestone Message instead.
Option 3: Specific Plans
Select Specific Plans to send messages exclusively to customers enrolled in particular membership plans.
When you select this option, the Target Plans setting allows you to choose the plans you want to include.
Common examples include:
Special instructions for members.
Member-only benefits and reminders.
Messages specific to premium membership tiers.
Information relevant to particular plans.
Example
Your facility offers a premium membership with special access instructions.
You can create a Welcome Message Trigger that targets only that membership plan.
Members on the selected plan receive the custom instructions before their reservations, while other customers don't receive that specific trigger.
Understanding Target Facilities
In addition to customer targeting, every trigger requires at least one Target Facility.
This allows businesses with multiple facilities to decide where the automation should apply.
Example
Your business has two locations:
Downtown Indoor Golf
Westside Indoor Golf
You want to send different entry instructions for each location.
Create two Welcome Message Triggers:
Trigger 1: Downtown Entry Instructions
Target Facilities: Downtown Indoor Golf
Target Customers: Everyone
Message: Downtown parking and access instructions
Trigger 2: Westside Entry Instructions
Target Facilities: Westside Indoor Golf
Target Customers: Everyone
Message: Westside parking and access instructions
Customers receive instructions corresponding to the facility where their reservation is scheduled.
How to Configure Customer Targeting
Open Menu → Triggers.
Click Add Trigger, or select an existing trigger.
Under Target Facilities, select one or more facilities.
Under Target Customers, select Everyone, Public Only, or Specific Plans.
If using Specific Plans, choose the eligible plans under Target Plans.
Configure the Trigger Type, timing, and message.
Click Save.
Important: Changes to Targeting Apply to New Reservations
If you change a trigger's facilities or audience-related settings, don't assume all previously scheduled reservations will be updated to use the new configuration.
In particular, changes to Target Facilities and trigger timing apply to reservations booked after the changes.
If you need different targeting for future reservations, update the trigger and save it.
Can Customers Receive Multiple Triggers?
Yes.
If a reservation qualifies for multiple active triggers, the customer can receive messages from each one.
For example, a member might qualify for:
A general Welcome Message targeting Everyone.
A member-specific Welcome Message targeting their membership plan.
Both triggers may send if their conditions are met.
Birrdi prevents the same trigger from sending more than once for a reservation, but it doesn't prevent different triggers from messaging the same customer.
Recommendation: Review your active triggers to avoid sending repetitive instructions or promotions.
Best Practices for Customer Targeting
Use Everyone for general instructions and information that applies to all reservations.
Use Public Only when promoting memberships or other offers intended for non-members.
Use Specific Plans for membership-specific benefits and instructions.
Use Target Facilities when different locations require different messages.
Avoid overlapping triggers that send nearly identical content.
Review your audiences when you add new membership plans or facilities.
Make Your Automated Messages More Relevant
Targeting helps ensure customers receive information that's useful to them.
By configuring your triggers for the appropriate facilities and customer groups, you can provide a more personalized experience while keeping communications automated.
