Why Birrdi Works Differently

If you're comparing Birrdi with another reservation platform, you may notice that Birrdi does certain things differently.

That's intentional.

Birrdi isn't designed to be a generic calendar with every possible setting. It's built specifically around operating and growing golf simulator businesses, and many of the decisions in the platform are designed to reduce friction for customers, automate work for operators, and help facilities generate more revenue.

That sometimes means Birrdi approaches a problem differently than another booking system.

We Optimize for the Customer Making the Reservation

One of the biggest principles behind Birrdi is simple:

Make it as easy as possible for someone to reserve.

Every additional dropdown, page, question, or decision creates another opportunity for a customer to abandon the reservation.

For that reason, Birrdi may intentionally avoid configuration options that would add additional steps to the customer experience.

For example, instead of requiring customers to first choose Morning, Afternoon, or Evening before seeing available times, Birrdi displays the available schedule directly.

Likewise, facilities with member-only hours can still display those times to public customers. The customer's eligibility and available rates determine what they can actually reserve.

That means a public customer who wants a member-only time can discover that membership is available, purchase it, and continue their reservation rather than simply seeing that the facility is unavailable.

These aren't limitations of the booking page. They're product decisions intended to remove friction and create more opportunities for reservations and memberships.

Birrdi Is More Than a Booking Calendar

When comparing platforms, it's easy to compare only what the reservation page looks like.

But the booking page is only one part of Birrdi.

Birrdi is designed to connect the systems that run your facility, including things such as:

  • Reservations and payments

  • Memberships and recurring billing

  • Packs and credits

  • Leagues and events

  • Gift cards and promo codes

  • Customer messaging

  • Door access

  • Launch monitor and simulator automation

  • Loyalty

  • Marketing and conversion tracking

  • Reporting and customer data

The goal is to reduce the number of disconnected systems an operator has to manage.

Why Birrdi Is Built Around Square

Birrdi's Square integration is another example of this philosophy.

We don't look at Square as simply the company that processes a credit card.

Square can also power your POS, customer database, gift cards, loyalty program, marketing, website, in-person payments, and other parts of the business.

Birrdi connects the reservation side of your operation to that ecosystem rather than creating a second disconnected customer and payment system.

That's why comparing payment-processing rates alone doesn't necessarily show the full cost—or value—of your technology stack.

We explain this in more detail here:

Birrdi Is Opinionated About How Golf Simulator Businesses Should Operate

You'll sometimes find that Birrdi recommends doing something differently than you originally planned.

For example, we've written extensively about keeping membership structures simple, using hourly bay pricing, encouraging online membership signups, automating facilities, and reducing unnecessary steps during checkout. Birrdi

Those recommendations come from focusing specifically on golf simulator businesses rather than trying to build booking software for every type of business.

You don't have to follow every recommendation, but understanding why Birrdi works a certain way can often be more useful than simply asking whether a particular setting exists.

Before Switching Platforms, Compare the Entire Operation

If you're considering another platform, we recommend looking beyond the feature checklist.

Ask how the change would affect:

Your customers: Will reserving become easier or require more steps?

Your memberships: How are billing, credits, member pricing, and eligibility handled?

Your automation: What happens to door access or simulator automation?

Your payments: Will your POS, online payments, gift cards, and customer records remain connected?

Your marketing: Can you understand where reservations came from and whether your advertising actually produced revenue?

Your operations: Will your team need to manage additional systems or manually perform tasks Birrdi currently automates?

A platform can have a feature you like while creating additional work somewhere else in the business.

The better comparison is the entire customer and operator experience, not one screen or setting.

“Another Platform Has a Feature Birrdi Doesn't”

Tell us.

We genuinely want to understand what you're trying to accomplish.

The most helpful feature requests aren't simply “Platform X has this.” Tell us the problem you're trying to solve and what happens at your facility today.

Sometimes we'll add the feature.

Sometimes Birrdi already solves the problem another way.

And sometimes we've deliberately designed the experience differently because we believe there's a simpler way for customers to reserve or for operators to run their business.

Understanding the underlying problem helps us continue improving Birrdi without adding complexity simply for the sake of adding more settings.

Our Goal

Birrdi's goal isn't to give operators the largest possible collection of switches and settings.

It's to make running a golf simulator business easier.

That means helping customers reserve with as little friction as possible, automating repetitive work, connecting the systems your facility relies on, and giving operators tools to grow their business.

Sometimes that makes Birrdi different.

It's supposed to.
