Blocking Time vs Changing Hours

Blocking Time vs Changing Hours

There are two ways to adjust availability in Birrdi, depending on what you’re trying to do:

1. Use Custom Events to Block Time

If you simply need to block off time (maintenance, private use, staff training, etc.), use a Custom Event.

Custom Events:

  • Remove availability for a specific date and time

  • Do not change your normal operating hours

  • Are ideal for one-off or temporary blocks

2. Change Hours for Holidays or Special Days

If your operating hours change for a holiday or special day, you have two options:

  • Create a Custom Event, or

  • Create a new Hours schedule that applies only to that day

How Hours Priority Works

Hours schedules are evaluated by priority, from 1–10:

  • 10 = highest priority

  • Higher priority schedules override lower ones

Your “normal” weekly hours typically have a lower priority.

If you’re creating a one-day override (for a holiday or special case):

  1. Create a new Hours schedule

  2. Set its priority higher than your normal hours

  3. Limit it to the correct day of the week

Important: Hours Are Based on Days of the Week

Hours are configured by day of week, and by date.

When creating a one-day override:

  • In the left sidebar, select Monday–Sunday

This ensures the hours apply only to that specific day.

Quick Rule of Thumb

  • Blocking time? → Use a Custom Event

  • Changing hours for a day? → Use Hours with a higher priority (or a Custom Event)

  • One-day exception? → Higher priority + correct day of week
