Fallback and Disaster Recovery PIN Codes for Remote Lock

How Birrdi handles access control when dynamic PIN codes fail or Remote Lock experiences an outage.

Updated over 2 months ago

Birrdi integrates with Remote Lock to generate dynamic PIN codes for reservations. However, in certain scenarios, fallback mechanisms are needed to ensure access is not disrupted.

Step 1. Click the Simulators tab in the top menu bar, then click the settings icon next to your simulator.

Fallback PIN Code (Recommended)

The fallback PIN code is a backup that should always be set. If Birrdi fails to generate a dynamic PIN, for example, due to a network timeout or third-party API failure, Birrdi will automatically send the fallback PIN instead.

This ensures that your guests still receive a valid code, even if real-time code generation is temporarily unavailable.

Best practice: Always keep a valid fallback code configured in your Remote Lock settings.

Disaster Recovery PIN Code

The disaster recovery PIN code should only be used in rare, system-wide outages, specifically, if Remote Lock's dashboard and API are completely inaccessible.

Set this code only if:

  • Remote Lock is experiencing a major outage

  • You cannot view or manage access codes from your Remote Lock dashboard

Use this code to manually grant access until Remote Lock services are restored.

Important: This code should not be set under normal operating conditions. It is intended solely for emergency use. After the emergency is over, remove this field from Birrdi to resume as normal.
